This famous melody, from the Venetian scene in its composer’s last opera, has a captivating charm that no amount of familiarity could ever dispel. The melody, arranged by Carlo Martelli, first appeared in a much earlier operetta called Die Rheinnixen but its universal fame dates from its use in The Tales of Hoffmann.
